Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice explains how Megan Schoeman, operating the Walkerville Directory ("we", "us"), collects, uses and protects your personal information. We are the responsible party (data controller) for the personal information described here, and we process it in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What we collect

• Account details — your email address and login credentials when you create an account.
• Listing content — business name, description, logo or photo, area covered and contact information you submit for a listing.
• Support messages — anything you send us when you contact us.
• Usage and technical data — basic device identifiers, IP address and how you use the site, collected automatically for security and to keep the Service running.

Payment details (such as your card number) are collected and processed directly by Paddle, our Merchant of Record, and are not covered by this notice — we never see or store your full card details.

Why we use it

• to create and manage your account and listings (performance of our contract with you);
• to display your approved listing publicly in the directory (as you request);
• to keep the Service secure and prevent fraud (our legitimate interests);
• to provide customer support and communicate with you about your listings;
• to meet legal obligations where required.

Who we share it with

• Service providers — hosting and infrastructure providers that help us run the site.
• Paddle — our Merchant of Record, for selling subscriptions, managing payments, tax compliance and invoicing.
• Professional advisers — such as accountants or legal advisers, where needed.
• Authorities — where we are required to do so by law.

Approved listing content (business name, description, image, area and contact details) is published publicly in the directory — that's the point of the Service.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account or listings are active, and afterwards only as long as needed for legal, accounting or dispute purposes. When it is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised.

Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to object to certain processing. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) if you believe your information has been handled unlawfully.

Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your personal information.

Cookies

We use only essential cookies needed to keep you signed in and the site functioning. We do not use advertising or marketing cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling essential cookies may prevent sign-in.

We may update this notice from time to time. The "last updated" date above shows the current version.
